Reo Rafting (Boston Bar) 2024
For our trip we went on a roadtrip all throughout BC. Our first stop? A camp called REO rafting! We slept in yurts alongside a roaring river-which acted as white noise. When we planned our road trip through beautiful British Columbia, I imagined scenic highways, sunsets and cute snack breaks.
What I didn’t imagine? Pulling into the forest and thinking:
“Wait… this is our FIRST stop?!”
Because our first stop was REO Rafting — and it was incredible.
We drove through a dusty winding road, surrounded by towering evergreens, and then…There it was. A small off-grid paradise tucked beside a roaring turquoise river.
Our white yurt sat on a wooden deck with cozy outdoor chairs that overlooked the roaring water. There even was a yoga tent, where you could wake up early and do yoga with the morning sun and the river. Unfortunately I liked my sleep too much- and didn’t get a chance to experience it. Perhaps next time. Inside the yurt it had these plush blue beds, it was warm and peaceful. We even had our own small bedside tables, equipped with lanterns for night. Outside? There were the chirps of the birds, the hum of mosquitoes and the roaring of the river. The constant rush of the river acting as the best white noise machine money can’t buy. It even managed to block out my dad’s snoring when we slept-and you have no idea how hard that is to achieve.
Travel tip: If you ever get the chance to sleep beside a river… take it. Some of the best sleep of your life.
But the yurt was only the beginning.
There was a massive wooden outdoor dining hall, strung with warm twinkle lights that made everything glow at night. Long communal tables where we ate dinner. And on some nights? A live band playing late into the evening. I have to admit the food was not entirely my favorite, but it was good. It was primarily health based, and although I didn’t feel much of a difference after less than a week of eating it, my parents disagreed and said they felt better-more energetic, so perhaps they were onto something there.
At night we gathered with our friends around the fire to roast marshmallows while the sky faded behind the trees.
And then there was the garden.
A huge, dreamy garden space with winding paths leading through greenery. Outdoor showers tucked among the trees (perfect for washing off after a swim). Hammocks swaying in quiet corners. And if you followed the path it led to the riverbank. My favourite part was the long swing along the path. I’ve always had an obsession with swings since I was little, so I definitely had to try it out with my friends. 10/10 experience!
During the day, we played on the sandbank, skipped rocks, and dipped our toes into the icy blue river. I have to say, the water was FREEZING.The water was fast, powerful and cold. You had to be careful you didn’t stray too far from the shore as there was a pretty strong current.
My favorite thing that we did was the white water rafting.
IT. WAS. SO. FUN.
Definitely one of my top moments and favourite memories. You get a wet suit, and a guide. They will explain all the safety rules and then you will take a bus to a part of the river. You get into the raft, and then you’re off! The guide will pretty much help steer your raft, and the parents also help paddle. Because we were kids, we got to sit in the front and just enjoy the ride. We screamed, laughed, got sprayed in the face a lot, and thankfully, did not fall off our raft. It was incredible and truly an experience I would recommend.
Things I didn’t expect:
• How magical the dining hall would feel at night
• How loud (but soothing) the river would be
• How fun white water rafting is.
